Australian Government Department of Veterans’ Affairs

The Australian Government through the Department of Veterans' Affairs established the Long Tan Bursary to help eligible children and grandchildren of Vietnam Veterans meet the cost of post-secondary education. The Long Tan Bursaries are worth $4,000 per year, for up to three years of full-time study and subject to mid-year and annual reviews.  The bursaries are awarded each year to successful applicants from each State and Territory.

Today we are the largest ex-service organisation in Queensland, providing practical support and assistance to current and former ADF members and their families in every corner of the state.

We are proud to partner with AVCAT to provide RSL Queensland Scholarships to help the children and grandchildren of veterans in their further and continuing education. Each year, we provide 20 scholarships offering $4,000 per year for up to three years of full-time study and subject to mid-year and annual reviews.

Australian Federation of Totally and Permanently Incapacitated Ex-Servicemen and Women (Queensland Branch)

The Australian Federation of Totally and Permanently Incapacitated Ex Servicemen and Women (Queensland Branch) Incorporated is dedicated to building better lives for Australia's veterans with disabilities and their families.

The tertiary education scholarship is awarded to children and grandchildren of veterans in Queensland who are in deserving circumstances. The veteran must be a current member of Australian Federation of Totally and Permanently Incapacitated Ex Servicemen and Women (Queensland Branch). The scholarship continues for up to three years, subject to mid-year and annual reviews. The scholarship is $4000 per year for up to three years of full-time study.

New South Wales

Australian War Widows NSW

The Australian War Widows NSW  was founded in 1946. Today the Australian War Widows NSW is a not for profit membership-based organisation whose mission is to promote and protect the interests of war widows in New South Wales.

The Australian War Widows NSW scholarship is awarded to children and grandchildren of war widows in NSW who are in deserving circumstances as they undertake full time tertiary education in Australia.  The war widow needs to be a financial member or become a financial member of Australian War Widows NSW for the duration of the scholarship.

The scholarship continues for up to three years, subject to mid-year and annual reviews. The scholarship is $4000 per year for up to three years of full-time study.

Brisbane Water (NSW) Legacy Scholarship

In 2001 Brisbane Water Legacy Club established a scholarship fund.  The object of the scholarship is to assist students residing in the Central Coast Council of wards – Gosford West, Gosford East, The Entrance, Wyong, Budgewoi – all postcodes from 2250-2267, 2083,2775.

The Brisbane Water (NSW) Legacy scholarship is awarded to descendants of veterans in deserving circumstances as they undertake full time tertiary education. The scholarship continues for up to four years offering a tiered payment starting at $4000 per year and subject to mid-year and annual reviews.

TLC Scholarship is awarded to children and grandchildren  of veterans in deserving circumstances as they undertake full time tertiary education in Australia. Each scholarship is for $4,000 per year, mostly for three years, subject to mid-year and annual reviews.

AVCAT receives donations each year from individuals and organisations like Partners of Veterans Association of Australia, Tasmania Branch. By combining the value of many donations AVCAT can often fund a one-year $4000 scholarship.

Chatswood RSL Club

The Chatswood RSL Club Scholarship is donated by Chatswood RSL Club.

The scholarship is awarded to children and grandchildren of veterans in deserving circumstances in NSW while they undertake tertiary education in Australia.

The scholarship is for one year, subject to mid-year and annual reviews. The scholarship is $4000 per year for one year of full-time study.

Global Defence Solutions

Global Defence Solutions is a solutions and service provider of deployable shelter and tent systems, air conditioning and generation in support of the Australia Defence Force, Security Services and Defence Forces within the South Pacific Region.

The Global Defence Solutions scholarship is awarded to children and grandchildren of veterans in the Shoalhaven and Wollongong areas in NSW and who are in deserving circumstances. The tertiary education scholarship continues for up to three years, subject to mid-year and annual reviews. Each scholarship is valued at $4000 per year for students in full time tertiary education.

New South Wales Nurses and Midwives' Association

The NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association  (NSW NMA) is the registered union for all nurses and midwives in New South Wales.

The Association represents the industrial interests of nurses and midwives in New South Wales in the public, private, aged care and disability sectors. Their role is to protect the interests of nurses and midwives and the nursing and midwifery professions. The NSW NMA also represents and provides for the professional, education and industrial welfare of nurses and midwives in government and non-government forums at state, national and international level.

The tertiary education scholarship is for children and grandchildren of veterans studying fulltime at university or TAFE College in nursing and/or midwifery courses in NSW. It continues for up to three years, subject to mid-year and annual reviews. The scholarship is $4000 per year for up to three years of full-time study.

The Port Macquarie Returned & Services League (RSL) Sub-Branch Scholarship is donated by Port Macquarie RSL Sub-Branch. The scholarship is awarded to children and grandchildren of veterans in deserving circumstances in the Port Macquarie local area while they undertake tertiary education in Australia. The scholarship continues for up to three years, subject to mid-year and annual reviews. The scholarship is $4000 per year for up to three years of full-time study.

Totally and Permanently Incapacitated Association (TPI) NSW

TPI NSW  is dedicated to building better lives for Australia's veterans with disabilities and their families.

The TPI NSW tertiary education scholarship is awarded to children and grandchildren of veterans in NSW who are in deserving circumstances. The veteran must be a current member of TPI NSW.

The scholarship continues for up to three years, subject to mid-year and annual reviews. The scholarship is $4000 per year for up to three years of full-time study.

Victoria

Carry On (Victoria)

Carry On (Victoria) helps Ex-Servicemen and Women, and their families, get help where they need it most: housing, advocacy, education, relief, and financial support. Many who have served our country with distinction find it difficult to adjust to civilian life without support from the government and welfare agencies.

The Carry On (Victoria) scholarship is awarded to children and grandchildren of veterans from Victoria who are in deserving circumstances as they undertake full time tertiary education in Australia.

The scholarship continues for up to three years, subject to mid-year and annual reviews. The scholarship is $4000 per year for up to three years of full-time study.

Returned & Services League of Australia Victorian Branch

The Returned & Services League (RSL) of Australia Victorian Branch serves the interests of its members, veterans, the ex-service community and members of the Australian Defence Force.

Scholarships are awarded to children and grandchildren of veterans in Victoria who are in deserving circumstances while they undertake full time tertiary education in Australia. RSL Victoria scholarships continue for up to three years, subject to mid-year and annual reviews. Each scholarship is valued at $4000 per year.

Tasmania

Totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI) Association Tasmania and the Tasmania Navy Network- Hobart

TPI Tasmania is dedicated to building better lives for Australia's veterans living with disabilities and their families.

The tertiary education scholarship is for children and grandchildren of a veteran who is currently living and/or studying in the Hobart area. The scholarship is for up to three years of full-time study, subject to mid-year and annual reviews. The scholarship is $4000 per year for up to three years of full-time study.

South Australia

Totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI) Association SA

TPI SA is dedicated to building better lives for Australia's veterans with disabilities and their families.

The TPI SA scholarship is awarded to children and grandchildren of veterans in deserving circumstances in SA. The tertiary education scholarship continues for up to three years, subject to mid-year and annual reviews. The scholarship is $4000 per year for up to three years of full-time study.

Vietnam Veterans Association of South Australia

The VVAA was formed out of the action group to expose the use of chemicals used in the Vietnam War and the problems associated with Vietnam Veterans and their families. The VVAA today has at its core the interests of Vietnam Veterans and their families.

The VVAA South Australia sponsors the "Daryl Knapp" Scholarship continuing for up to three years for the children and grandchildren of Vietnam Veterans and must be permanently resident in South Australia. It is for $4,000 and continues for up to three years.

Western Australia

Vietnam Veterans Association of Western Australia

The VVAA was formed out of the action group to expose the use of chemicals used in the Vietnam War and the problems associated with Vietnam Veterans and their families. The VVAA WA today has at its core the interests of Vietnam Veterans and their families.

The scholarship is for one year, subject to mid-year and annual reviews. The scholarship is $4000 per year for one year of full-time study in a university, TAFE College or a Registered Training Organisation  in Western Australia.

National

Legacy Australia

Legacy Australia is an iconic Australian charity that strives to ensure that the partners and children of veterans who gave their lives, or health in recognised military service, can fully realise their potential. Legacy also helps provide social, emotional and financial support for those in their care.
The tertiary education scholarship known as the John Gough Memorial Scholarship, is for children and grandchildren of veterans who have died or are incapacitated in that they can no longer care for their family.

The applicant can be a junior legatee and/or their family is linked to their local Legacy Club.

The scholarship continues for up to three years, subject to mid-year and annual reviews. The scholarship is $4000 per year for up to three years of full-time study.

NSW Trustee and Guardian

The NSW Trustee and Guardian manage the George Robert Quinsey OAM Trust Fund. The Fund provides scholarships for recipients of AVCAT scholarships who are studying a business, finance, accounting or commerce course. The scholarship is paid to the ATO to assist the recipient with their HECS/HELP loan.

Returned & Services League of Australia

The Returned  & Services League (RSL) of Australia stands to serve the interests of its members, veterans, the ex-service community and members of the Australian Defence Force. Scholarships are awarded yearly to children and grandchildren of veterans in deserving circumstances while they undertake tertiary education in Australia. RSL National Scholarships continue for up to three years, subject to mid-year and annual reviews. Each scholarship is $4000 per year.

Vietnam Veterans' and Peacekeepers' & Peacemakers' Association of Australia

The Vietnam Veterans’ and Peacekeepers’ & Peacemakers’ Association of Australia (VVPPAA) represents former, as well as current members of the Australian Defence Force and their families, of all conflicts from World War II to Afghanistan, including Peacekeeping and Peacemaking Missions. The Association is made up of volunteers who assist veterans in need. The organisation also has paid advocates who not only represent clients at appeals but also assist new clients in preparing and lodging claims.

The VVPPAA Scholarship is for children and grandchildren of Vietnam veterans in deserving circumstances. The tertiary education scholarship continues for up to three years, subject to mid-year and annual reviews. The scholarship is $4000 per year for up to three years of full-time study.
