Joan Hughes Presented with Governor-General’s Medallion

Joan Hughes and Bill Crews

Their Excellencies the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley gifted AVCAT with a Governor-General’s medallion to thank AVCAT for our work to ‘help people, uplift those around us and make our community better’.

Major General Bill Crews AO (Retd), AVCAT Chair, presented AVCAT CEO Joan Hughes with the Governor-General’s medallion.

Bill says, ‘As the Chief Executive of AVCAT, Joan Hughes recognised early that 2020 would present more than the usual challenges. With her typical drive and initiative, she competently managed our small staff team in working remotely without disruption to meeting our obligations to our scholarship sponsors and the 245 young people whom we assist through their tertiary education.’

Joan was delighted, ‘I am overwhelmed by the honour of receiving the Governor General’s medallion and I couldn’t have done the work during COVID without AVCAT’s wonderful, dedicated and flexible staff’.

The Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) is Patron of AVCAT.
