Major General Bill Crews AO (Retd) Chair of AVCAT presented Mrs Meg Green AM with a certificate of recognition thanking her for her years of work and dedicated service as a Board Director at AVCAT. In doing so, Bill expressed his admiration for the diligence and commitment shown by Meg in her work with AVCAT, and her wise counsel in Board proceedings.

Meg was a long-serving and valued member of the Board. She was first appointed Alternate Board Director in 2013 by Australian War Widows. And was appointed Board Director in 2018, serving until November 2023. Meg generously gave her time and expertise over the years and was a valued member of the Finance Audit and Risk Committee.

Len Russell, CEO of AVCAT said, ‘Meg has provided AVCAT with unwavering support over many years. She has given her time and commitment to not only being a board director but also serving as a valuable member of sub-committees. She has shared with us her considerable knowledge and understanding of the challenges veterans and their families face to the benefit of AVCAT and veteran families.’

Meg joined the War Widows’ Guild of Australia in 2008 following the death of her husband, Gordon, a Vietnam Veteran. By 2014 she was elected National President of the War Widows’ Guild of Australia and served in this post until her retirement in 2020.

Her significant service to veterans and their families, and to nursing was recognised in the 2019 Queen’s Birthday Honours when Meg was Appointed as a Member (AM) of the Order of Australian (General Division).

All of us at AVCAT thank Meg for her years of service and wish her the best for future endeavours.
