It fills me with gratitude to think about what the future holds, and I’m so grateful to AVCAT and RSL Queensland for backing me in the pursuit of a professional career. Chase your dreams with determination, hard work is always rewarded.

This year I commenced a Bachelor of Musical Theatre at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University (the Con). To say that this first semester has been life changing would be an understatement.
Aspiring to a life of performance I knew I needed to work hard, and I have. Being offered a spot at the Con has validated all my work so far, but now that I’m studying there, I’m beginning to understand my hard work has only just begun. At the Con I have classes five days a week, with more than 20 contact hours. My endurance and ability are being tested. This is a fraction of the work I will need to do to as I build myself a successful career. Challenges will only get harder from here, but I know the staff and students will be there to support me.

The teaching staff at the Con are second to none. They are instrumental to the development of my skills. The opportunity to work with industry professionals daily is almost unbelievable, their passion for passing on their knowledge inspires me to work harder and improve, every single week. The faculty is absolutely committed to producing top quality performers, and with their wisdom my peers and I will be well equipped with the right skills to thrive in the performing arts.

I am fortunate to share this journey with a group of 22 insanely talented people, all of whom share the same aspiration and ambition as me. We have quickly built ourselves a supportive and encouraging environment where everyone can showcase themselves, and know that they are free from judgement if they (very rarely) make a mistake. It is so important to be surrounded by people who are looking out for me. I’m very grateful that we can all lift each other up to our absolute best.
The beginning of this course brought about a massive shift in my life, and I was terrified of how I would adjust to everything, but taking the chance and pursuing my dreams has given me the best six months of my life so far. It fills me with gratitude to think about what the future holds, and I’m so grateful to AVCAT for backing me in the pursuit of a professional career. Chase your dreams with determination, hard work is always rewarded.
