Vietnam Veterans’ Day Memorial Service

L-R: David Clark Secretary Five Dock RSL Sub-branch, Bill Roberts VVPPAA & AVCAT, Meg Green, Len Russell CEO AVCAT, Ron O’Connor Secretary VVPPAA

AVCAT CEO Len Russell attended the Vietnam Veterans Peacekeepers and Peacemakers Association of Australia’s Memorial Service at the Bankstown District Sports Club on Vietnam Veterans’ Day.

It has been sixty years since the National Service Act introduced a scheme of selective conscription in Australia. Many conscripted soldiers were sent on active service to the war in Vietnam. 523 Australians died during the Vietnam War, and more than 3000 were wounded, including 200 National Servicemen. At this years’ service, the VVPPAA honoured all who served in Vietnam.

Scholarship applications open each year on Vietnam Veterans’ Day. AVCAT was originally established to receive and distribute Australia’s share of the Agent Orange Class Action Settlement. Applications are open until midnight on 31 October.

Lest we forget.
