Congratulations to all our 2023 Queensland scholars.
By Len Russell, CEO AVCAT

We had a wonderful winter’s morning in Brisbane at the Queensland Scholarship Presentation. My thanks to Stuart Smith AO DSC, Deputy Secretary of Veteran and Family Services, who hosted AVCAT at the DVA Brisbane office to hold the award ceremony.
Presenting the Long Tan Bursaries on behalf of DVA was Don Spinks AM, Repatriation Commissioner for DVA. This was Don’s final scholarship presentation before his retirement. We were fortunate to have a strong supporter in Don and we are grateful for his kindness and dedicated work over the years.
Presenting the sponsored scholarship certificates was Kathleen Boseley from Airbus Australia, Jenny Gregory OAM & Judy Smith from Australian War Widows, Paul Power from Brisbane Legacy; Jenna Passlow from RSL QLD; Graeme and Jeanette Morris sponsoring the Roy Morris Memorial scholarships and Eleanor McNally from 3 Elements Coffee.
Each of the scholars was awarded a three-year scholarship which will assist them as they continue their studies in their chosen fields in areas such as business, design, early childhood education, law, music, and science.
Representing the AVCAT Alumni Network was guest speaker Rebecca Brady, a child of a Vietnam Veteran. Rebecca spoke about how AVCAT and the scholarship gave her the financial and emotional support needed during her time studying speech pathology and caring for her children. Rebecca went on to encourage the current scholars and wished them ‘the best of luck in their chosen areas of study and to seek out support networks which can assist in helping with their study.’
Congratulations to all our 2023 Queensland scholars
